I used to live on Dyess Air Force Base in junior high. it was fun listening to the B1 bombers flying over our house every day. But the thing that made me more nervous than that was right after 9/11 when i saw armed guards standing at the gate that i walked through every morning on my way to school. That gate was normally unmanned. I was in school the day before and saw in class the destruction n NYC. but having armed guards on my way to school made it seem more real to me. Great post Anne.
